Incased is a reference tool, not legal advice. Always confirm authority and current status against original sources before acting.
Disclaimer
Incased is an independent reference application created to assist police officers in British Columbia, including municipal police and RCMP members, in locating and reviewing case law and oversight decisions relevant to their duties. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any police agency, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO BC), the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner (OPCC), the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, or any court.
The case summaries, significance notes, tags, and categorizations contained in this app are editorial summaries prepared for quick reference. They are not full reproductions of judgments or decisions and may omit facts, reasoning, or qualifications that are material to a given situation. Summaries may also contain errors, become outdated as the law develops, or be superseded by appellate decisions.
Nothing in Incased constitutes legal advice. Officers should:
- Verify any case relied upon against the original judgment or decision before acting on it;
- Consult Crown counsel, agency legal advisors, or the relevant policy unit when a legal question arises operationally;
- Treat oversight summaries (IIO and OPCC) as illustrative of past outcomes only — each matter turns on its own facts.
Use of this app does not create any solicitor-client, advisory, or employment relationship between the user and the developer. The developer accepts no liability for any decision, action, or omission taken in reliance on the contents of this app.
Statutory Text
Incased reproduces sections of the Criminal Code of Canada and selected provisions of British Columbia's Motor Vehicle Act and other provincial statutes for reference purposes. This is not the official version of any statute.
Federal statutes are reproduced under the authority of the Reproduction of Federal Law Order, SI/97-5. The official text of the Criminal Code is published by the King's Printer for Canada and is available at laws-lois.justice.gc.ca.
Provincial statutes are reproduced under the King's Printer Licence – British Columbia. These materials contain information that has been derived from information originally made available by the Province of British Columbia at http://www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca and this information is being used in accordance with the King's Printer Licence – British Columbia available at https://www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca/standards/Licence.html.
Statutory text may be out of date. Legislatures amend statutes regularly. The version of a section displayed in Incased reflects the text as transcribed on the date shown below and may not reflect recent amendments, orders-in-council, or judicial interpretation. Before relying on any provision operationally, verify the current text against the official source.
Reasonable care has been taken to ensure accuracy in transcription, but errors may exist. The developer makes no warranty as to the accuracy, completeness, or currency of any statutory text reproduced in this app. Where the text displayed conflicts with the official version, the official version governs.
Privacy Policy
Incased does not collect personal information. The app is designed to function as a self-contained reference tool. We do not require accounts, do not track users across sessions, and do not build profiles of individual officers or agencies.
Data stored on your device only. The following information is stored locally in your device's app storage and never transmitted:
- Recently Viewed history;
- Newly Added markers and read state;
- Any user preferences or display settings.
This data can be cleared at any time by deleting and reinstalling the app, or by clearing the app's local storage in your device settings.
Case data updates. The app fetches its case database from a remotely hosted JSON file when launched or refreshed. These requests transmit only the standard information any web request includes (your IP address and a generic request header) to the hosting provider. No identifier tying the request to you personally is sent by the app.
Feedback submissions. If you choose to use the in-app Feedback & Requests form, your submission is processed by Netlify Forms and routed to a feedback inbox hosted by Google Workspace (Gmail). Only the information you voluntarily provide (category, message, and email if you supply one) is collected. Email is optional and used solely to follow up on your submission. If you provide an email, you may also receive an automated confirmation that your submission was received. Feedback content is reviewed by the developer and is not shared with third parties or any police agency.
No analytics, no tracking, no advertising. Incased does not integrate analytics SDKs, advertising networks, crash reporting tools, or third-party trackers. We do not know which cases you read, which searches you run, or how often you open the app.
Apple App Store. If you obtained Incased through the App Store, Apple may collect download and usage statistics under its own privacy policy. The developer receives only aggregated, anonymized data from Apple and cannot identify individual users.
Children. Incased is intended for use by sworn police officers and is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy. Material changes will be reflected in the app and dated below. Continued use of the app after a change indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
Contact. Questions about this policy or the app's data handling can be sent through the in-app Feedback & Requests form, or by email to feedback@incased.app.
